After deciding to change jobs I had to look for a cheap, reliable and sporty car to get me to my new place of work. In a way I have been spoilt by having a company car and have never had to rely on my own car to get me to work and back. Another MR2 Turbo would have been way too much on the wallet - not only to buy but the costs of running were stupid (170 miles on a full tank... no thank you!)

I've been a fan of old school cars since I first started driving but I have been put off by old Fords of late which I why I have opted for a Mk2 Golf GTi.

I found this little beauty in Autotrader for a very good price - local too. After a good look round I was happy with the condition and it was mine.

As you can see its in very good condition for the year and it drives like a dream. The steering is very positive and with the lack of power assistance its very involving. The 1800 8v engine is very torquey with lots of low down power and will be perfect for the back roads to work. Even with a measly 115BHP it feels very swift - I'll put that down to the lightweight build of the car. After a few issues - well mainly the lack of any oil its running like a dream and I have to admit that I really do love this car. I can see why people get hooked on the VW scene.

Not exactly super fast or rare but It will do me until I decide what to pump a few more of my hard earned pounds into next year.
